Greg Crook is as solid of a goalkeeper as they come in the PASL-Pro. Greg led the league in saves and save percentage last year and was also Player of the Week for week #16. Having Crook in goal was a major element to the Illinois Piasa winning the Frontier Division last season. Well, it was announced that Crook is back and will once again be one of the major keys to the Piasa retaining their title.
Greg hails from Columbia, IL and played for SIUE as their goalkeeper from 2003-2007. His best season was his senior year in 2007 when he was named an NSCAA and Daktronics All-American and led Division II in GAA for a majority of the year. He also played in 2 NCAA Final Fours (1 National Championship Game) with SIUE.
Greg had a trial with the Harrisburg City Islanders of the USL in 2008 but made a choice not to pursue playing with them, and instead decided to focus on working on his Master’s Degree and continue as an HR Specialist for SIUE. Additionally, his career choice prevented him from playing with AC St. Louis where he had a trial as well. Playing for the Piasa provided him the opportunity to continue to pursue a professional career in both Human Resources and soccer.
“This year, you can expect more of what I contributed last year,” said Piasa GK Greg Crook. “I believe we have a more talented team all around, from administration, to coaching and to the players. I will try to continue to match that talent level and hopefully lead us to a playoff berth.”
Piasa owner Jason Cawvey added, ” (to) bring back experienced players like Crook was simple, in my opinion he was the top keeper in the league last year. He led the league with the top save percentage as well as the most saves. He is extremely passionate and demands the very best efforts of those who are out in front of him. With his leadership and keeper abilities, he is the perfect choice to anchor our defense.”
The Piasa will conclude their preseason tonight (Tuesday, Nov 1) at 7pm. The Piasa then begin their regular season this Saturday (Nov 5, 7pm) vs Kansas Magic.
Illinois Piasa is a professional indoor soccer team entering their second season as a PASL-Pro franchise and will play their home games at The Sports Academy, located at 101 The Game Drive, Glen Carbon, IL 62034.
